RDJ used cue cards for Iron Man

Everyone has praised Robert Downey Jr. for his outstanding performance as naval commander Lewis Strauss in Oppenheimer. Fans were pleasantly delighted to see the actor take on a completely new character in Christopher Nolan's most recent picture because up until 2019, the actor was best known for portraying Tony Stark in a number of Iron Man, Avengers, and Spider-Man franchise flicks.
